Volunteer Roles

Registration

  • Welcome WCPHX attendees (be friendly and welcoming)
  • Check in attendees, speakers, and sponsors
  • Prepare and hand out badges
  • Provide information on where to find the event’s schedule and how to recognize a volunteer, organizer, and safety wrangler

Room Staff

Emcee and room runner

  • Introduce speaker (speakers can also introduce themselves if preferred)
  • Make any necessary announcements
  • Run microphones during Q&As

Time Keeper

  • Ensure that talks start and end on time
  • Help speakers stay on track timewise
  • Show speakers the ‘remaining time’ cards during their session

Door Guard

  • Welcome people into the room before a session starts
  • Ensure that people quietly enter or exit a room when talks are already in progress
  • Hold open the door when appropriate
  • Help run microphones to the back of the room during Q&As
  • View/listen to sessions while guarding the door

Room and speaker assistant

  • Help A/V team (we will train you but experience with A/V is a plus)
  • Assist with anything a speaker needs
  • Work closely with room emcee to keep talk on time and speaker prepared

Swag

Swag Station

  • Give WCPHX swag to Attendees and keep track of who received theirs
  • Ensure that the swag table is organized
  • Unbox swag and move to where it is needed

Directions Staff

  • Direct attendees around the venue
  • Some volunteers will help early in the day with parking (directing attendees to parking and to the venue)
  • Have a map on hand of the venue and show attendees where to find the online map to help attendees navigate around WCPHX

Photographer

  • Shoot in your own style
  • Produce sharp, high quality photos/video
  • Edit and post-process your images

Community Help Desk

  • Be a friendly and inviting face that makes people feel comfortable to ask any question they have
  • Ask what you can help with
  • Help people with all kinds of WordPress-related questions
  • Do research or ask another person if you don’t know the answe
