FAQ

WordCamp Phoenix kicks off on February 15 at 8:00 AM at the Phoenix Convention Center located in Downtown Phoenix. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions to help you make the most of WCPHX!

The Event!

Registration and Badge Pick-Up

Once you arrive at Phoenix Convention Center on February 15 or 16, come to the registration desk in the main lobby.

We’ll give you your attendee badge and lanyard. From there, we recommend checking out our hallway track area to grab a refreshment, check out our sponsors, and then head to the auditorium for our opening remarks at 9:00 AM.

Contacting The Organizers

If you need to be in touch with us during the event the best place to do this is via Slack or Twitter.

Volunteers wearing yellow/gold shirts can help direct you to the correct person on site for any matters of urgency or emergency. Organizers will all be wearing Raglan white or gold shirts with maroon sleeves. Our Code of Conduct (updated with our new policy on weapons) is in effect at all WCPHX events.

Where can I find the schedule?

You can find the full schedule here.

Will there be any kind of childcare at WCPHX?

No, we will not be offering childcare at WCPHX.

Are the venues accessible?

Yes! The Phoenix Convention Center & Venues is an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant facility and we work with event organizers to provide reasonable accommodations for all of our guests. Guests who need accommodations, such as large print materials, Braille, sign language/oral interpreters or other special needs during an event, should contact the event organizer.

Paid parking will be available onsite at the Phoenix Convention Center in the West Garage for $12/day (beneath the building with our event), limited adjacent street parking is available and there are a number of nearby garages and lots. (Phoenix Convention Center Parking Map)

The West Garage Entrance is located at 185 N 2nd StreetPlease note that Monroe Street will be shut down between 2nd and 3rd streets for our lunch.

We also recommend taking advantage of free Park-and-Ride locations throughout Greater Phoenix along the METRO Light Rail. The closest stations are a few minutes walk from the West Building. The nearest Westbound station (trains from Tempe/Mesa) is 3rd St/Washington and the nearest Eastbound station (trains from North Phoenix) is 3rd St/Jefferson.

Is public transport available?

The closest light rail stations are at 3rd St & Washington St and 3rd St & Jefferson St and a 5 minute walk from Phoenix Convention Center. We always encourage the use of Valley METRO’s free Park-and-Ride locations along the light rail and GRID bikes. Uber, Lyft, and local taxi services are also available.

Traffic and Road Closures

FOOD

Will you cater for vegetarians/vegans/gluten-intolerant?

WordCamp Phoenix has worked hard to prepare a menu of items that will meet the needs for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free diets. You can view our post with the lunch menu items here. If you have another allergy, please contact us immediately so that we can make arrangements with the executive chef.

Fun & Miscellaneous

Where is the After Party?

The after party will be held at Galvanize (515 E Grant St) in the Warehouse district just south of Chase Field. Galvanize is an easy one-mile walk from the Phoenix Convention Center in about 20 minutes (walking directions). Uber and Lyft are also great options for those who would like to ride. On weekend evenings, pedicabs are often available. For those who would like to drive to Galvanize, the entire parking lot is fully available after 5:00 pm. You are welcome to park in any parking place with the exception of the “Cafe Reserved” parking spots.

Contributor Day is February 17

Please join us at Galvanize Phoenix for a day of contributing to the WordPress project — no prior experience contributing is required. Please bring a laptop or tablet if you plan to attend.

Whether you write code or prose, are a digital designer or marketer, write documentation or code tests to assure software quality, we’d love for you to bring your expertise and share it with the global WordPress community.

We’ll have experienced contributors onsite to help you dive-in and get started!

We will not be providing lunch at Galvanize, however The Larry (onsite) will be open and there are a number of nearby restaurants within 15-20m walk or short ride share.

WordCamp was awesome, but I can’t wait until the next one.

Neither can we. There is a thriving community of WordPress people here in Arizona. You can find out more info on AZWP’s Meetup page about their four meetups a month, which are like mini WordCamp experiences.
