Rachel Cherry to Keynote WordCamp Phoenix 2017

We’re thrilled to announce Rachel Cherry, a senior software engineer at Disney and champion for web accessibility and WordPress in higher education will keynote WordCamp Phoenix on Saturday, October 29.

Rachel will be sharing: “In praise of the side project: How to learn new skills, make money, and have a little fun.”

“Many great projects, products, and companies have grown out of side projects or hobbies,” wrote Cherry. “Apple, Twitter, and even Gmail exist because someone dedicated their spare time to testing the waters.”

By day Rachel and her team build beautiful, immersive and inviting digital experiences for Disney brands. Prior to that she created websites in higher education and is the Founder & Director of WPCampus. Rachel is also a longtime organizer of educational, collaborative technology groups and active in the WordPress community.

We’re so happy to welcome Rachel to the WordCamp Phoenix stage — keep an eye out for the full speaker lineup soon!

Call For Volunteers, Last Call for Speakers

Happy Summer from the WordCamp Phoenix team!

We’ve been busy planning an exciting event for the end of October, and we’d love your help if you’re interested in volunteering (also, our call for Speakers has been extended until Monday at 11:59 PM — we’d love for you to apply to speak as well).

Each year a small team of dedicated volunteers helps make WordCamp Phoenix the enjoyable, valuable weekend we all look forward to.

Volunteers assist with guest registration, announcing speakers, running the Happiness Bar, A/V assistance, task running and more. WordCamp volunteers can contribute a few hours or for the whole camp. To thank volunteers for their generosity, they receive free admission to the event as well as a t-shirt.

If you’re interested, please apply to volunteer and tell us a little about your skills and interests.
