“Friday Foundations” is a full workshop day complete with tracks geared to your particular level of use within WordPress ecosystem. On Friday, attendees pick a workshop track and stay in that track all day based – tracks include Beginning User, Advanced User, Designer, Beginning Developer, and Advanced Developer. We’ve increased the time slots this year from 45 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes to allow ample opportunity for hands-on and demo usage.

Our Speakers
Adam Silverstein
Adam started programming by learning assembly code on his Radio Shack color computer (with 4k!), and started his own software company from his college dorm room. After years building custom HTML/PHP/JavaScript solutions he embraced WordPress as his platform of choice, building custom themes and plugins for clients large and small. Adam currently works as a Senior Web Engineer at 10up.
Determined to give back to the community, he became immersed in contributing to core and worked intensely on coding the new revisions system for WordPress 3.6. He also loves long rafting trips, playing mbira, travel, taking walks and tending his over sized garden.
Andrea Middleton
Andrea Middleton has worked in support of WordCamp organizers since 2011. She’s lived all over the US and spent 5 years in Mexico City and the US Virgin Islands, respectively. When not engaging in WordPress community organizing high-jinks, she can be found juggling her two kids – almost never literally – and thinking about wine, food, literature of all sorts.
Andy Christian
Andy Christian has been using WordPress almost since its inception. He has spoken at nearly a dozen WordCamp conferences and other events, introducing new users to the wonders of WordPress. Currently, he develops training and documentation for Tadpole.cc, as well as providing technical support for Tadpole’s clients.
Betsy Cohen
Betsy has been designing and building websites for more than 15 years. Six years ago she founded Positive Element, a boutique web design firm here in Phoenix, AZ. Where she and her team create custom web sites for professionals and small businesses that are user-friendly, easy to maintain and easily optimized for search engines and social media.
Betsy lives in North Phoenix, raising 3 kids, and enjoys reading, yoga, and hiking. Betsy used to enjoy other things too, like travel and painting… but she hasn’t had much time for those lately!
Brad Parbs
Brad Parbs is a developer at WebDevStudios. To put it simply, Brad Parbs is a WordPress fanatic. Spending his time writing code, reading docs, and contributing to WordPress in multiple ways, he just can’t get away from it. When he’s not working, you’ll probably find him playing weird video games or teasing cats with laser pointers.
Brad Williams
Brad is the co-founder of WebDevStudios.com, a co-host on the DradCast podcast, and the co-author of Professional WordPress (1E & 2E) and Professional WordPress Plugin Development. Brad is also one of the organizers of the Philadelphia WordPress Meetup Group and WordCamp Philly.
Brennen Byrne
Brennen Byrne is the founder and CEO of Clef, an identity company with the mission of replacing usernames and passwords with your smartphone. Brennen is an active speaker with experience in user authentication, data protection, e-commerce payments, and cryptographic digital identity protection solutions. Clef is located in Oakland, CA and is privately funded company.
Brent Shepherd
Brent loves WooCommerce. He works day-and-night on WooCommerce Subscriptions – the most popular 3rd party extension in WooThemes’ official WooCommerce extension marketplace. He provided technical review for “Building E-Commerce Solutions with WooCommerce”, the first ever WooCommerce book and is organizing the WooCommerce meetup in his new home of San Francisco.
Prior to falling in love with WooCommerce, Brent was a WordPress freelance developer for clients like Stanford University and the Australian Government. As part of the Australian WordPress community, he also co-organized two WordCamps – WordCamp Melbourne 2011 and WordCamp Gold Coast.
WordPress is Brent’s hobby and his profession.
Chris Lema
Chris Lema blogs daily over at chrislema.com. He likes doing things daily – like reading 30 minutes, or napping for 60 minutes. You can also see him doing things weekly, like showing up on the most watched WordPress podcast – wpwatercooler.com. And he speaks at tech conferences, including a lot of WordCamps.
Cliff Seal
Cliff is a UX Designer at Pardot, a salesforce.com Company—a leader in B2B marketing automation — where he is the resident WordPress developer and has co-led team efforts on a complete Pardot.com refresh and a major UI overhaul. Cliff has been developing in WordPress for over five years as Logos Creative, and also co-founded MusicGrid.me. He has spoken around the world at numerous WordCamps and conferences such as Conversion Conference and Web Conference at Penn State, covering topics such as content strategy, user experience process, and WordPress development.
He lives in Atlanta with his wife April, and enjoys nerding out over music and cycling through the city.
Dan Beil
Dan has been a theme developer for the past 4 years, specializing in custom WordPress builds to address specific requirements. Recently Dan has joined the Blue Earth Interactive team in St Paul, MN. In his ‘free’ time he fosters Siberian Huskies and sometimes contributes to opensource WordPress projects on GitHub.
Elisa Camahort Page
Elisa Camahort Page is one of the three co-founders of BlogHer, Inc., along with Lisa Stone and Jory Des Jardins. As COO of the company, Elisa leads the BlogHer conference business, including the BlogHer annual conference, which will host thousand of attendees at its 10th Anniversary event in San Jose, CA this July. Elisa also leads the research/consumer insights division, as well as the company’s public relations and social media efforts. Prior to BlogHer, Elisa worked as a high-tech marketing executive and consultant.
Eric Mann
Eric Mann is a seasoned web developer with experience in languages from JavaScript to Ruby to C#. He has been building websites of all shapes and sizes for the better part of a decade and continues to experiment with new technologies and techniques.
Eric is a Senior Web Engineer at 10up where he focuses on developing high-end web solutions powered by WordPress.
Gabriela Levit
Gabriela Levit is an experienced developer with over 15 years programming experience. She started Jacaranda Technologies five years ago, primarily creating web sites, custom WordPress themes, and now expanding into plugins. Past WordCamp Philly sponsor, WordCamp New York volunteer, and active member of the WordPress NYC Meetup.
When not programming, she can be found taking pictures, eating/cooking yummy food, or flying small airplanes.

Jeremy Scott
Jeremy Scott started developing for the web when he was 14. By 18, he had a handful of clients running on his custom php cms. One look at WordPress (yes, version 1) and he migrated his clients and never looked back. Today, Jeremy is a full time entrepreneur and does more business development than web development, but still spends about 50 hours a month on WordPress sites developing themes on the Genesis framework. He is a lifetime resident of Chandler, AZ, a huge LEGO fan, plays Halo on xbox, and loves to write.
Joe Casabona
Joe Casabona is a web developer, author, and teacher who focuses primarily on WordPress and mobile development. His latest book is called Responsive Design with WordPress. Konstantin Obenland
Konstantin is a WordPress developer and core contributor since WordPress 3.4. After helping out with Twenty Twelve, he was the backup lead and theme developer for Twenty Thirteen and Twenty Fourteen, the latest default themes. Konstantin is a beer aficionado and loves good food – it is no coincidence that those two blogs are his most active.
Marc Benzakein
Marc Benzakein has been working online since the mid 90s, starting as a Network Administrator for a small, independent ISP in Southern California and has been involved in almost all aspects of technology. In 2009, he started developing in WordPress, first for his own purposes and then for clients. In early 2013, he got involved with ServerPress, LLC, makers of DesktopServer, a local development tool created for WordPress designers and developers.
Marc lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife and two children, Eli (8) and Brenna (3).
Mary Baum
A degreed designer, certified typography nut and veteran creative director, Mary Baum had already spent 15 years practicing a wide assortment of creative disciplines before there ever was this thing called the internet.
Her clients have included companies as big as GM and Chrysler and as small as one-person consulting firms – even a guy who cut her hair! But she’s scored her biggest wins for midsize companies in business-to-business, finance and technology.
Mary started building sites in 1998, at first using Adobe GoLive (Oy, vey.)
But when Adobe pulled that product in favor of Dreamweaver, she took it as a sign and learned proper markup – at the tender age of 47.
Now she runs a 100% WordPress shop, mostly on Genesis. She messes with the php to get the looks and functionality her clients need, and de-stresses with CSS and Photoshop.
Away from the computer, Mary plays competitive tennis – she and husband Dick Moomaw, an aerospace engineer, moved to Palmdale/Lancaster, CA in November from St. Louis, MO for one to two years. They look forward to exploring the region, meeting up with Western friends and family and – they hope – getting some sunshine.
Matt Adams
Matthew Adams is the Creative director for Factor 1 Studios, a digital creative agency. Dedicated to helping organizations and small businesses create awesome websites, brands and marketing strategies. Matthew is an avid competitive cyclist, runner, and apple geek. Matthew and his wife Stephanie live in Tempe, AZ with their twin boys.
Michael Cain
Michael is a Portland, Maine-based Theme Wrangler for Automattic‘s Theme Team. He spends his days creating, converting, and improving the theme experience on both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, his evenings blogging about food and travel on mapandmenu.com, and his nights dreaming about how to make tomorrow’s WordPress blogs and sites even better.
Michelle Schulp
Michelle is a graphic designer and co-founder of Marktime Media, a multimedia design and video production company based in Chicagoland. She was formally schooled in many aspects of design including print, branding, packaging, etc., with additional education in Psychology and Sociology, all tying together in a love of How To Solve Problems. Lately she has been specializing in WordPress websites, infographics, and high-end presentations for her clients. She is a lover of WordCamps and the WordPress community, a Meetup junkie, @3themes contributor, and WordCamp Chicago lead organizer.
Mike Schroder
Mike Schroder, known as Shredder to most of his colleagues, is a cross-cultural kid, coffee-drinking sailor, and lover of Open Source. Nicole Arnold
Nicole has been a developer for over ten years. As a software developer at Alley Interactive, she has led development on The New York Observer (Observer.com) and worked on the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), where she contributed to the site template and custom widgets. Prior to Alley Interactive, she spent four years as a freelance web developer and three years as a developer on a corporate web team, working across marketing and software development teams.
Nina Miller
Nina Miller has been a designer at Arizona State University since 2005, before there was any institutional wide adoption of CMS was even considered. An early lurker on WordPress.org, she quickly became a fan of WP. In addition to designing for the university, Nina has taught foundation level courses in the ASU Visual Communications program and she has been an actor and performer in Phoenix since 1995. Her research in Interaction Design focuses on theatrical improvisation and how it might inspire the collaborative design process. Nina is a board member, instructor and improvisor at The Torch Theatre, a non-profit improv collective in central Phoenix.
Patrick Rauland
Patrick spends most of the work day slicing and dicing code to help WooThemes customers. He develops extensions for Ninja Forms and loves to blog. He also organizes the Appleton WordPress Meetup. Being outside, running, and practicing yoga are some of his favorite activities. His ultimate goal is to figure out a way to code websites while in a headstand.
Paul Clark
Paul is a TEDx speaker, WordPress core contributor, and co-founder of brainstormmedia.com, a team of passionate designers, developers, and teachers. Together, they are in the business of changing the world using WordPress.

Roger Williams
Roger Williams is the owner of Roger Williams Media an internet marketing agency focused on creating websites that allow businesses to interact with their customers from sales and support to everything else. He has been working with WordPress since 2003 and strongly encourages all of his clients to do the same. He lives in Phoenix with his awesome wife Kate and handsome dog Zeke. You will probably see him biking or running around town training for a triathlon.
Ruth Carter
Known for her daring antics and outgoing personality, Ruth Carter is a licensed Arizona attorney. She owns Carter Law Firm in Phoenix where she focuses on intellectual property, social media law, business formation and contracts, and flash mob law. Ruth was selected as an American Bar Association Legal Rebel in 2012 and for the Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 in 2013. She also wrote the books, The Legal Side of Blogging: How Not to get Sued, Fired, Arrested, or Killed and Flash Mob Law: The Legal Side of Planning and Participating in Pillow Fights, No Pants Rides, and Other Shenanigans. When she’s not busy being a lawyer, Ruth is a co-founder of Improv AZ and volunteers with Ignite Phoenix.
Sam Hotchkiss
Sam Hotchkiss has been developing with WordPress since 2005, and heads up Hotchkiss Consulting Group, a small team of WordPress ninjas based out of Bath, Maine. Sam is also the lead developer of BruteProtect, a plugin which protects WordPress sites against brute force attacks using a central database of malicious IPs. As of early December, BruteProtect had blocked over 17m malicious login attempts across over 17,000 sites.

Scott Bolinger is the co-founder of AppPresser, a mobile app development framework for WordPress.
Sé Reed
Sé Reed (@sereedmedia) has been working with WordPress since 2007, focused primarily on developing custom WordPress themes and functionality for small businesses. In addition to her web consulting company, Sé Reed Media, she serves as a business advisor for the Small Business Development Center (Los Angeles Regional Network), where she helps small business owners develop comprehensive on and offline marketing strategies, most of which including developing and using WordPress websites. Sé teaches monthly workshops on topics including WordPress, SEO, content development, and social media, and speaks at seminars and conferences about all aspects of the Internet and small business (and usually involving WordPress). Sé is also a regular contributor to the weekly webcast WPWatercooler.
Stacey Harris
The Stacey Harris is a powerhouse online entrepreneur helping her clients reach rock star status with communities full of raving fans who follow them anywhere. She has a passion for building and being active in communities and teaching folks to use networking to build relationships that grow businesses.
Her passion for rock stars goes back to her roots, she graduated with a degree in audio engineering ready to take the music scene by storm. She quickly started working with an up and coming record label finding bands to sign and feature on their web radio station. Now returning to her web radio roots Stacey is the host of her own show Hit the Mic with Stacey Harris.
When she’s not working with future online rock stars she spends time with her family.
Suzette Franck
Suzette Franck is the WordPress Evangelist at (mt) Media Temple in Culver City, California, where she educates and advocates for WordPress and the WordPress Community. In 2013, she attended 80 WordPress meetups where she presented at 25 of them, spoke at 12 WordCamps in 8 different states and two countries, as well as presented online at WordSesh #2 with Natalie MacLees. She blogs frequently at suzettefranck.com about WordPress and is a regular contributor on WPWatercooler.com, which has been running weekly for over a year and has almost 5 million views. She was also the host of the popular WordPress podcast DradCast Episode 017. Suzette is also the creator and organizer of WordPress For Artists Meetup, sponsored by (mt) Media Temple and Thinkspace Gallery and helped to coordinate 2013 WordCampLAX and one of the largest WordPress 10th Anniversary parties in California, and is showing no signs of stopping.
Taylor Aldridge
Taylor has over 20 years of design and communication experience, with the last decade spent as the Creative Director for Food Services of America, one of America’s largest food distribution companies. While there, Taylor generated structure that strengthened, cultivated, and established the company’s message, brand, and culture. He is adept at motivating and inspiring creative teams and obtaining the highest quality design, while still achieving targeted business objectives. Taylor’s expertise is creating design and communication that is directly tied to enhancing usability and increasing sales. Most recently, Taylor co founded BrainstormMedia.com, a web design company. Taylor holds a Bachelors in Fine Art and is an accomplished photographer.
Tomas Puig
Tomas Puig is the Director of Marketing for WP Engine who currently lives and works in San Francisco. Tomas’ career started at NASA Ames research center where he worked on computer security and web development. However he quickly moved to the entertainment and branding side starting in music production with recording such artists as Jack Johnson, Clay McClinton, and Laura Cash. In Advertising after his award winning FuseTV, IFC, and Namco campaigns Tomas was recruited by Studio One Films (Part of the A.G. Nadiadwala Group) to become their head of technical / creative in Bollywood. Where he launched major USA based brands in India and directed music videos. After returning to the states Tomas worked in the digital ad agency industry with well regarded firms including LEVEL, COG1, Rosetta, and Propane. Some of his major clients included Facebook, Cisco, NetApp, Namco/Bandai, Square-Enix, and Google. His most recent projects included working on digital and brand properties for Kaiser Permanente, New Relic, and the new Tomb Raider video game. Tomas has directed projects that have won 4 Gold National Addy’s, several Cannes CLIO’s, and festival awards. It should also be noted that he is a giant geek who loves video games (currently playing Bioshock Infinite), Legos, breaking his Arduino set ups, and playing with his dog Éowyn.
Troy Dean
Troy Dean is a WordPress consultant and co-founder of Video User Manuals, a video tutorial plug-in to teach your client how to use WordPress, as well as WP Elevation, the world’s first business accelerator program for WordPress consultants. He speaks regularly at WordCamps and have delivered solutions for clients including Jessica Watson (the Australian girl who sailed around the world at the age of 16), F1 Grand Prix and The Ashes Cricket.
Zac Gordon
Zac Gordon has a background teaching web design, development and WordPress at levels from middle schools, high schools, colleges and Universities. Today he teaches WordPress at Treehouse, the online technology school.
Zac also owns a web design company that specializes in $975 WordPress sites for small business owners.
